The Visayan Fisherfolk's Life

September 05, 2024 • BY MARK MORALES • poem
Where the Visayan sun paints the sky with gold,
Estancia, Iloilo, a story unfolds.
A tapestry woven of sea and of land,
Where fisherfolk's lives, forever expand.

From dawn's gentle touch to the day's fiery blaze,
Their boats cut the waves, in a rhythmic maze.
Nets cast with hope, a dance with the tide,
As the bounty of the ocean, they strive to confide.

The scent of the salt, a familiar embrace,
Whispers of stories, on each weathered face.
Generations of men, with calloused hands strong,
Passing down wisdom, in their seafaring song.

The fishing industry, a lifeline so true,
Sustaining the town, with its vibrant hue.
From bustling markets, to tables so spread,
The fruits of their labor, a livelihood bred.

Estancia's fisherfolk, a resilient band,
With hearts full of courage, and spirits so grand.
Their lives intertwined, with the ocean's embrace,
A testament to strength, in this timeless space.

So raise a glass high, to the men of the sea,
Their dedication, for all to decree.
Estancia, Iloilo, a fishing town proud,
Where the spirit of the sea, forever resounds.
